Community of Play is proud to partner with The Sharing Shelf, a Westchester-based nonprofit that provides clothing and essentials to children and teens who need them.
Why this matters
A clean shirt that fits. A warm coat. Shoes that feel good. These basics can help a child feel comfortable, confident, and ready to take on their day.
For many children in Westchester, having the right clothing isn't always a given, and that can affect more than what they wear. Clothing insecurity can impact a child's confidence, participation in school, and sense of belonging.
When kids have what they need, they can focus less on what they're wearing, and more on learning, playing, and just being kids.
How We’re Partnering
-
Donation Bin, Onsite
Look for our Sharing Shelf donation bin here at Community of Play. Drop off items when you come in for class or are in the neighborhood, and The Sharing Shelf handles the rest.
-
Sorting & Other Events
We'll open our space for clothing sorting sessions and other events, where our community van help sort donated clothing before it heads to The Sharing Shelf and get more involved. Follow us on Instagram for upcoming dates.
-
Seasonal Drives
The Sharing Shelf's needs shift throughout the year. We'll run periodic drives here for specific items, such as winter coats, so kids in our community have them when they’re needed most.
The Sharing Shelf accepts donations of new and gently used clothing in all sizes, from baby clothes through adult XXL, to support the children and teens across Westchester County.
