Play, Motor & Sensory
The first few years of life brings upon an incredible amount of growth and development. At Community of Play, we believe that learning in early childhood happens when children play and explore developmentally appropriate materials. Sensory experiences and learning on the move are essential building blocks of early childhood development. Young children learn through their eight senses - yes 8! - and our carefully curated classes support these senses. Our Play, Motor & Sensory classes are designed to nurture curiosity, build coordination, and support emotional growth through open-ended, hands-on exploration.
Infant Tummy Time
Ages: 0 - 6 months
This cozy and supportive class is designed for parents, caregivers and their babies in the earliest months of life. Led by a pediatric physical therapist and a clinical social worker certified in perinatal mental health, this class is all about fostering connection and creating meaningful play experiences from day one. Together, we’ll explore ways to support your baby’s physical development through tummy time, gentle movement, and sensory exploration—all in a warm, welcoming space for parents to bond, ask questions, and connect.
Little Senses Sensory Class
Ages: 1 - 2.5 years
This sensory-rich class is all about exploration! Children are invited to engage with a wide variety of open-ended materials designed to stimulate all the senses—touch, sight, smell, hearing, taste (safely!), plus the often-overlooked proprioceptive and vestibular senses. Through carefully curated setups, children explore textures, movement, and cause-and-effect in a calm, supportive environment that encourages curiosity and discovery. This class is a joyful, developmentally grounded way to support early learning through play. We like to call this class “structured unstructured” meaning that children are encouraged to take initiative and explore what interests them while being grounded and guided by the teachers and their caregivers. Each class ends with a community building circle-time consisting of songs and books.
Motor Skills & Sensory Play (Pre-Walkers)
Ages: 6 months - 1.5 years
This class is designed for pre-walkers (rollers, sitters and crawlers, too!) and their caregivers to explore movement and play in a safe and supportive space. With guidance from pediatric therapists and a variety of materials that support development, children will work on skills like building core strength, coordination, balance, motor planning, sensory awareness and tolerance, problem solving, and sustained attention.
This class is designed with caregiver participation in mind. Young children explore best in the company of a trusted adult. We ask that adults be on the floor exploring materials with their child.
This class is perfect for infants who are not yet walking—typically ages 6 to 15 months—and their grown-ups. Come move, explore, and grow together!
Motor Skills & Sensory Play (Movers)
Ages: 2 - 3 years
This class is designed for movers and shakers ready to hone gross and fine motor skills. With guidance from pediatric therapists and a variety of materials that support development, children will work on skills like building core strength, coordination, balance, motor planning, sensory awareness and tolerance, problem solving, and sustained attention. As skills emerge, activities, obstacle courses and motor challenges will get more complicated and multidimensional.

Once Upon a Story Time
Ages: 2 -3 years / 18 - 30 months
Step into a world of wonder and excitement with our Once Upon a Story Time and literacy class. Specially designed for young learners, this engaging and interactive program is the perfect gateway to ignite your child's love for books, words, and stories. Each class begins with a beloved story—think The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, or Not a Box—followed by hands-on activities inspired by the book’s characters, themes, and vocabulary. Led by a licensed clinical speech and language pathologist, this class is designed to boost early communication skills, build vocabulary, and support social development—all through joyful, book-based play. Play invitations and activities will be inspired by the story read in that class. Whether your toddler is a chatterbox or still finding their voice, Once Upon A Story Time is a nurturing space to connect, learn, and play through the magic of stories.
Little Chefs
Ages: 2 – 4 years / 3 – 5 years / K – 1st grade
Cooking is a fun (and delicious!) way to immerse young children in early learning. In each class, we whip up something new while mixing in math, literacy, science, and sensory play. As we stir, measure, and create, kids also build social, language, and fine motor skills—plus feel the joy that comes from making something from scratch. It’s hands-on, collaborative, and just the right amount of messy. Classes are always nut- and peanut-free.
